Trump Abandons Plans to Send Federal Troops to San Francisco Bay Area

The President has scrapped arrangements for a deployment of national agents to the San Francisco Bay Area that had provoked broad criticism from California leaders and brought protesters gathering in the public areas.

Area Anxiety Over Possible Federal Operation

The area had been concerned after news emerged that the leadership was prepared to send more than 100 Customs and Border Protection and government personnel to the government installation in Alameda, as part of a large-scale legal compliance initiative.

Presidential Decision Following Talks

However, the chief executive declared he would not move forward with a “surge” of federal forces in the region after speaking with the mayor, Daniel Lurie, and Silicon Valley figures including tech executive and Nvidia chief.

“In that conversation, the president told me explicitly that he was terminating any plans for a federal deployment in San Francisco,” the mayor commented in a release.
